Design for Empowerment Extended is a course on understanding and contributing to the community of everyday makers and technologists. With topics including open source communities, constructivist education, and international development, we focus on understanding what it means to empower individuals with technology in a society that also uses technology to create dependence and enforce a hierarchy. We are also experimenting with a flat organization that spans across institutions and spaces in the city to use this course as a vehicle to open up resources to a wider audience.
