Synthetics Aesthetics Friday Seminar

Tuesday, November 2nd, 2010

Synthetic Aesthetics will be presenting on some of their collaborations so far.  Its a program that took in applications last spring from artists, designers, and synthetic biology researchers.  Artists were paired with researchers and the pairs would spend time together in the art space as well as the lab space working on projects.

The seminar will also include discussions on the intersection between art, design, and synthetic bio.  Should be pretty exciting. The seminar will be this Friday from 4-7pm in the Media Lab, E14-633.

The seminar will focus on what roles designers and artists can play in this nascent field of science and engineering, how synthetic biology can impact art and design, and what these collaborations can tell us about the role of biotechnology in social life. What can be learned by designers from scientists, and what can design and art offer to science? What are these emerging collaborative works? What can this shared territory reveal about science and design?
